Tranex Solar

A brighter future: a project management tool to streamline solar farm installations

Project requirements

  • Transform a paper-based system into a digital one
  • Maintain quality control across various user types
  • Consolidate all information in a single location
  • Seamlessly integrate with NetSuite
  • Develop an app for both desktop and tablet use
  • Create an app that can be used offline, even in remote locations on-site
  • Maintain ownership of the data

The client

Tranex Solar is Australia's most trusted solar contractor, specialising in designing, installing, and managing solar farms nationwide. Their talented team of experts blends cutting-edge tech with a customer-centric approach to deliver amazing results for their clients and steer the industry toward a brighter future.

The challenge

Tranex Solar's project management processes were manual, repetitive, and took up way too much time. It was tough to coordinate teams all over the country, not to mention keeping track of progress and Q&A while on-site. They needed a way to automate their processes and keep track of everything, from Q&A to progress updates to team sign-ins. They came to us to craft a project management tool that was both robust and user-friendly. It was important that their installers could access it on-site, maybe even offline, or while wearing gloves. The ultimate goal? To make daily project management smoother and amp up their efficiency.

What we did

We teamed up with Tranex Solar to build a custom app tailored specifically for their unique needs. The goal was to make their current installation management processes more automated, without changing how they do things.

We started by meeting with different stakeholders to get a feel for their challenges and requirements. We wanted to know what took up most of their time, what mattered to them, and how we could make things more efficient. Then, we got to work on a detailed technical architecture and user flows to show how different user types would interact with the product.

Our design process focused on creating an interface that was as polished as the best project management apps out there, but also simple and "rugged" enough to be easily used on-site as well as in the office. The design went through several iterations to get it perfect. But taking the time to challenge ourselves and deeply consider all angles and possibilities during the design phase led to a super-efficient build. Teaming up with our development partner, we had a product ready for Tranex to test and play with, within weeks.
